Malandragem: The social Festival

German Hip Hop-Funk, Czech Dancehall-Reggae, Viennese Klezmer, Styrian Balkan-beats, Globalization-critical Samba, Workshops, Beachsoccer, Movies and Debates: the Malandragem Festival 2009 presents itself with its diversity and colorfulness!
The theme of this year´s Malandragem is “land use”. After watching "Fronteira Brazil. Struggle for Land in Mato Grosso" (a documentary on „land use conflicts in Brazil“ dealing with – partly violent – conflicts between farmers, indigenous peoples and soy producing landowners in the southern Amazon area), experts of the “Dreikönigsaktion”, the human rights organisation “FIAN” and the international farmers movement “Via Campesina” will discuss the linkages between our daily behavior and land conflicts in Brazil. The evening will be rounded off with the Bossa-Nova-Combo „Brasa Brasil“ and a small buffet with regional cuisine.
On Saturday afternoon all over Gars, there will be a wide array of workshops, ranging from Brazilian cooking, Samba percussion or Capoeira to a theater workshop as well as a permaculture (permanent agriculture) workshop. For those more interested in sporty activities, be sure to catch the Beach-Soccer-Cup.
Saturday evening, the festival will hit its climax with Hip-Hop and Funk from Lingua Loca, Dancehall-Reggae from Cocoman & Solid Vibes, Klezmer-Ska-Punk from Pallawatsch/Zivatar Utca, Balkan-Klezmer-Circus-Rock from the Masala Brass Kollektiv, Brazilian Samba and Reggae from SambAttac, as well as some electronic music from Noirm.
The proceeds from the festival will be donated to the “pastoral of the landless” in Brazil.
